National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2025 is the 18th annual week long celebration of apprenticeships and skills running 10 – 16 February.
NAW brings together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
Tiger are committed to help to inspire and influence people to choose apprenticeships, as a route to create business and individual success. Four members of our full time staff started as apprentices and are now Business Support Manager, Business Support Executive, Warehouse Operative and Production Operative.
We currently have one apprentice in our business support office and two in the sales office and love the skills and contribution they bring. To mark National Apprenticeship Week they have answered a few questions:
Name: Keira
Fun fact: I am a qualified mental health first aider and peer mentor.
What does your role involve and what do you enjoy about it? I work in the sales office and provide customer service and quotations to our valued customers, along with sales order processing and so on. I love the routine, my colleagues, customer interaction, the job satisfaction and skills I gain.
What are some of the key skills that you have learnt so far during your apprenticeship? I have learnt some great skills at Tiger and I have also been able to develop existing skills such as: teamwork, communication, problem solving, confidence and time management. I have also been able to improve my personal development due to Tiger’s values, including my aim for tenacity and integrity everyday – ensuring the customer is always the focus.
What advice would you give to others who are thinking about doing an apprenticeship? Go for it! Its a great choice for those not sure between going into work or higher education. It allows you to work, get paid and learn in a supportive environment. In my case I work Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm and I will achieve a higher level 4 degree at the end of my apprenticeship. This is an amazing opportunity and I would definately suggest this route to someone considering an apprenticeship, as you have a routine with something important to work towards which gives you motivation and job satisfaction.

Name: Cole
Fun fact: I play twice a week in local pool leagues.
What does your role involve and what do you enjoy about it? As a business support administrator my role involves creating export documents, communicating with freight forwarders, invoicing orders, uploading product information to RiConnect, obtaining proof of exports, monitoring back orders, helping peers and keeping our system up to date with all of the relevant information. The thing I find most enjoyable about my job is how every day is different and there’s always something which I can be working on.
What are some of the key skills that you have learnt so far during your apprenticeship? Since starting at Tiger Lifting I have developed my teamwork and communication through working with customers, couriers and fellow members of staff on a daily basis, to help support the delivery of goods and services. I’ve also gained a lot of knowledge about various IT systems, which have helped me use programs like Word, Excel and Outlook to strengthen my organisational abilities.
What advice would you give to others who are thinking about doing an apprenticeship? I’d advise you to go for it. You get to experience a full time job and are paid for learning at the same time, support is available from both the college and employer and the work you produce is based on real life situations. It gives you an excellent understanding of what its like to work in your role and gives you a qualification to help launch your career.
