National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2024 is the 17th annual celebration of apprenticeships running 5 – 11 February.
The week brings together everyone passionate about apprenticeships to celebrate the value, benefit and opportunity that they bring.
We have a good reputation here at Tiger for developing apprentices in the business. Four members of our full time staff started as apprentices and are now Business Support Manager, Operations Administrator, Warehouse Operative and Production Operative.
We currently have one apprentice in our business support office and one in the sales office and love the contribution they bring to the teams. To mark National Apprentice Week they have answered a few questions:
Name: Ryan
Favourite film: Rocky 4.
What does your role involve and what do you enjoy about it? My role at Tiger Lifting is Business Support Apprentice, this involves producing import documentation, managing our business management system to meet and maintain ISO standards, carrying out internal audits and safety inspections. Other duties include product label making, uploading product information/certificates to the RiConnect website and raising purchase orders. The thing I enjoy most about my role is that every day is different, due to the diversity of tasks to complete.
What are some of the key skills that you have learnt so far during your apprenticeship? Further improved my teamwork, as I have learnt how important each person’s role is in helping to run the business and how my role helps to contribute. I have also learnt a lot about ISO standards and continue to develop in this area.
What advice would you give to others who are thinking about doing an apprenticeship? I would highly recommend doing an apprenticeship as it helps you gain new skills and knowledge, which can then help lead to developing your career path.
Name: Harvey
Fun fact: I am the top scorer at Tiger Lifting’s 5 a side football.
What does your role involve and what do you enjoy about it? My role is Sales Apprentice and involves dealing with customer enquiries – via email or on the phone, sending out quotations to customers and processing sales orders. I enjoy the fact that my role allows me to be part of a large team of people who are all working together to make sure that everything happens as it should.
What are some of the key skills that you have learnt so far during your apprenticeship? Whilst I have only been in the industry for a couple of months my knowledge has improved considerably. Coming into this I had no real understanding about the type of products Tiger Lifting offered. Everyday I am learning more and more about not only the products, but also the way in which the business works.
What advice would you give to others who are thinking about doing an apprenticeship? My advice for others considering an apprenticeship would definitely be to go for it. The actual working experience is definitely the biggest positive for me so far. It gives such a good insight into what working is really like as well as providing you with a qualification at the end of it.
